Helambu trekking is moderate seven days journey 75 km northeast of Kathmandu, which begins from Sundarijal (also Melamchi Bazaar). Stunning settlement of Tamang and Sherpa called Yolmo, live in with farming and animal husbandry. The Hidden Valley, Helambu revered after the potato (He) and radish (Labu). The Tamang village with apple garden, Melamchi Khola valley, Buddhist monastery, Tibetan Buddhism, ancient meditation caves is exciting for outsiders.
Helambu trekking is reached 3600 meters altitude, trekkers also across Gosainkund and Ganjala Pass to visit the village. Sundarijal can start hiking 15 km northeast of the Kathmandu valley. The teahouse trip is exciting to explore the ethnic village civilization, monasteries, Chortens, prayer flags, Mani walls. Day 01 : Arrival in Kathmandu Airport 1337 m
We pick you up at Tribhuvan International Airport, transfer you to the hotel with 25 minutes of driving. Check-in hotel and our guide brief the programs. Stay overnight at the hotel with breakfast in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Full day sightseeing in Kathmandu - 6 hours
Professional Tour Guide comes at 9 AM with a car to the hotel door. The guide explains about Nepal. The four UNESCO world heritage sites include Swayambhunath (1st century), Kathmandu Durbar, Pashupatinath (5th century) and Boudhanath (5th century).
Day 03: Kathmandu (1350 m) to Chisapani (2200 m) - 4/5 hours
We drive 45-minute to Sundarijal (1390 m), 15 km northeast of Kathmandu valley. There are hydropower and drinking water project that supplies to Kathmandu. We hike inside Shivapuri National park with a check post and picnic spot. We cross the dam and climb through a Tamang village of the Mulkharka (1895 m) with teashop and Kathmandu views. We walk through a forest to Borlang Bhanjyang (2440 m) with Ganesh Himal and Langtang views. We descend to Chisopani (cold water) with tea houses in 45 minutes. Stay overnight at a lodge in Chisapani.
Day 04: Chisopani to Kutumsang (2470 m) - 6/7 hours
We descend to Pati Bhanjyang (1770 m) as the Brahmin and Chhetri village with the terraced fields, check post, lodge and shop. Climb steeply up to the Chipling (2170 m) and the Jhogin Danda (2470 m) with Mountain Views. Descend to the Thodang Betini (2100 m) through a forest to the Gul Bhanjyang (2130 m), a Tamang village with tea shop. Climb up to a pass (2620 m), descend to the Kutumsang as the Tamang village with a lodge, and check post. Stay overnight in Kutumsant.
Day 05: Kutumsang to Tharepati (3640 m) - 5/6 hours
We climb uphill through an oak, fir and rhododendron forest, Chortens along the way to Panghu Danda ridge (3230 m), the Magen Goth (3285 m) with a lodge and army post. We climb uphill continues passing through a stream, jungle to reach the Tharepati with some lodges and views of Dorjelakpa, Gaurishanker, Jugal and Number Himalaya. The Thai Airbus crashed in 1992 in the west nearby the Gosaikunda Pass. Stay overnight in Tharepati.
Day 06: Tharepati to Tarke Ghyang (2600 m) - 6/7 hours
We take an east path, descend steeply through juniper, rhododendron and birch forest to reach a cairn (2980 m). We turn left, descend the stream with a suspension bridge to Malemchigaon (2530 m). This is an upper Helambu village with the Sherpa people. There are lodges, gompas, prayer flags and Mani walls. We descend to cross a bridge over the Melamchi Khola (1890 m) and the Tarke Gyang, the large village with a Ningma-Pa Buddhism . There are lodges and gompas. We can glimpse the Ganja La pass north of the valley. We stay overnight there.
Day 07: Tarke Ghyang to Shermathang (2620 m) - 4/5 hours
We hike the oak forest to Gangal village. We climb to a ridge across the stream, waterfalls to Shermathang village. The ancient gompa, lodge and a national park check post offer a view of Jugal Himal. The Sherpa village is beautiful with a rich culture.
Day 08: Shermathang to Melamchi Bazaar (830 m) - 4/5 hours
Today we descend 1800 m to Melamchi Bazaar. The trail goes along with the beautiful gompa towards the southern end of Kakani village (1900 m). We descend to a village and continue the large Tamang village Dubhanchaur (1500 m) with thatched roof house. We descend to cross a couple of suspension bridges over Melamchi Khola and Indrawati Khola. In the end, we arrive at the Melamchi Bazaar. Stay overnight here.
Day 09: Malemchi Bazaar to Kathmandu (1350 m) - 4/5 hours
We take a bus to Kathmandu with a 73 km distance passing the Lamidanda and Dhulikhel. The road is bumpy until Lamidanda later joins the Kodari Highway with a paved road. We enjoy the beautiful highway town with the Himalayan views from the Dhulikhel. We stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 10: Departure to Tribhuban International Airport
Kathmandu Airport is 6 km far, which takes 25 minutes drive. Get airport 3 hours before your flight departure. We wish you a safe and happy flight.
