Gosainkunda Pass Trek is a Gosaikunda Lake trek to cross the famous mountain between Langtang and Helambu Valley. The exciting journey starts in Syabrubesi after the 8-hour drive from Kathmandu. This trek also begins from Sundarijal, Melamchi, Dupcheshwor, and Dhunche. Gosainkunda Pass (4610 m) is an hour away from the holy lakes at 4380 meters height, such as Bhairavkunda, Saraswati Kund, Surjekunda, Dudh Kunda, and Gosainkunda. Gosain and Kund translate a lake of Gosain (pilgrim). Afterwards, the high pass, Tharepati, separated Helambu and Sundarijal routes.
Gosainkunda Pass Trek is exciting to get Langtang Valley and the holy lakes of Nepal as the Ramsar Site on 23 September 2007. There is fascinating Tamang culture, an alpine village, a red panda trail, and unique flora with fauna. An hour before Gosaikunda, Lauribina Pass (3700 m) suggests magnificent views of the Annapurna and Langtang Himalayan range. Gosaikunda is a holy lake for Hindus all over the world. Every day is 5-6 hours of an adventure walk to the village, mountain valley, and forest with red panda.
At the age of truth, God Shiva created the Lake of Gosankunda. Once, Gods with Demons joined the churning of the ocean to obtain immortality water (Amrita). They found poison (Kalkut) that could be harmful to other Gods and demons. God Shiva sipped the Kalkut alone to save all human beings. God Shiva became Nilkantha (Blue-throated) later due to the poison. Afterwards, God Shiva went to the Himalayas for spring water. He thrust his trident (Trishul) to the mountain for the drinking water, which turned Gosaikunda Lake, a famous pilgrimage site.
Gosainkunda Lake Trek meets 10 thousand pilgrims annually in August to celebrate the Janai Purnima festival blessing with God Shiva. Devotees take ritual baths in the holy lake Gosaikunda and worship Lord Shiva. Numerous shamans celebrate Janai Purnima with dancing, wearing a typical dress drum set. In winter, snowfall diverted the lake into ice. The journey is worth exploring a red panda, Tamang culture, alpine vegetation, colourful wildflowers, Ramsar site with spectacular views of Annapurna (8091 m), Manaslu (8167 m), Langtang (7245 m), and Dorje Lakpa. Tourists book the summer trek to observe the wildflowers and red pandas near Sing Gompa (3300 m). Further trip information with a detailed itinerary is below.
