Bardia jungle safari is an exciting tour in Bardia (Bardiya) National Park, which ranges from 152 meters to 1441 meters. The park, launched in 1988 AD, covers 968 sq kilometres of land in Bardia (Bardiya), Banke and Surkhet districts, 617 km southwest of Kathmandu. It borders the Karnali River to the west and the Churia range with River Babai to the north. The lush tropical and subtropical forest covers 70 % Sal, 30 % Savannah, grasslands and riverine trees. Bardiya National Park is the home of various threatened wildlife, birds, animals, reptiles and aquatic.
Bardia jungle safari is Nepal's second most popular jungle safari for diverse flora, fauna and ecosystem enthusiasts. The national park harbours 839 species of plants and 407 species of birds with herons, geese, ducks, storks, parakeets, peacocks, Sarus crane, Bengal florican and Silver-Earedmesia. There are recorded 53 species of mammals with a wild elephant, swamp deer (110), blackbuck, Royal Bengal Tiger (125), sloth bear, leopard, blue bull, one-horned rhinoceros and monkey. Karnali is the home of the gharial (Gavialis gangeticus), marsh mugger crocodile, Gangetic Dolphin, snakes, and the Large Mahseer fish. One horn great rhinoceros translocated from Chitwan National Park in 1986, 1991, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002.
Baghora has a museum and crocodile breeding centre with swamp deers. Jungle cottages are available for overnight accommodations near the park. The three-night, four-day jungle safari tour includes bird watching, an elephant safari, a Tharu cultural show, a boat ride, a jungle walk, and fishing tours. Annually, 20500 tourists visit the park.
From October to Early April, stay dry weather with warm days and cool nights. From April to June, the temperature grows up to 45° Celsius. June to September remains monsoon season.
Kathmandu to Nepalgunj suggests 50 minutes flight. Local buses from Nepalgunj leave at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to Thakurdwara, which takes 3 hours (95 km). Kathmandu to Ambassa (way to Mahendranagar, 681 km) takes 15 hours by bus (552 km). Afterwards, a jeep reaches Thakurdwara (14 km). Naya bus park Kathmandu leaves a direct bus for Thakurdwara (566 km) at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. (14 hours). The private car can hired from Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan for Bardia National Park. Visitors often visit from the Indian Border, Banbassa-Mahendranagar and Rupaidiha-Nepalgunj.
Karnali rafting starts with a 30 km jeep drive. It suggests swimming and observing a freshwater Gangetic dolphin.
The elephant ride takes the forest with its habitat of Royal Bengal Tiger, one-horned rhinoceros, hog deer, spotted deer, swamp deer, blackbuck, blue bull, monkeys and various plants.
Jungle walking with a professional nature guide explores rare animals in the dense forest. Machan (tower) is a comfortable place for wildlife photography. Bring a camera and binoculars to observe endangered animals.
The village walk goes Tharu village with a guide interacting with locals enjoying their typical house, food habits, dress, and culture.
Tharu is an indigenous people with a language, culture and lifestyle. After dinner, the nature guide brings up to watch the Tharu cultural show in a hall. They display fantastic stick dances, funny dances and group dances with video.
