Koshi Tappu jungle safari is an interesting program in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve located in southeastern Terai of Nepal, 500 km away from Kathmandu. Visitors can reach from Kathmandu to Biratnagar flight (40 m), then required some 40 km drive. This wildlife reserve covers a 175 sq km area from 100 m to 150 m, established in 1976. This is also a Ramsar site listed in 1987. This is situated bank of the Koshi River (biggest river of Nepal) in the Saptari and Sunsari district. This reserve was established for the purpose of wild water buffalo (Arna) protection. This wetland is famous in Nepal to view various beautiful birds. Annual visitors 21799 recorded.

Koshi Tappu jungle safari is quite impressive in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, which is the home of 531 species of birds includes 40 species of migratory birds from Siberia throughout October to March. There are bar-headed geese, Sarus Crane, Brahminy Ducks, Pintails Duck, Common Pochard, White-eyed Pochard, and Red-crested Pochard. There are a variety of ducks, herons, storks, ibis, egrets. This amazing wetland boasts elephant, hog deer, wild water buffalo, wild boar, spotted deer, jackal, blue bull, gharial crocodile and Gangetic dolphin. There is a deciduous riverine tropical forest with grassland and patches of scrub vegetation. 

Koshi Tappu jungle safari designed elephant riding, canoeing, bird watching, and sunrise view. Canoeing trip over Sun Koshi River arrived in the Reserve. There is a beautiful island preserved with the most beautiful wild water buffalo (Arna, 432) and a blue bull. Koshi Barrage (56 doors) was built in 1958-1962, situated 16 km to the south. Tourists can explore the local lifestyle, agricultural farming. From March to September day temperature remains 40° Celsius. The best time from October to February is recommended. Bird Watching 

Enjoy the bird watching with a nature guide. It is a famous wetland nearby the River Koshi. Explore the residential and migratory bird (479 species) including comb duck, Swamp Francolin, lesser adjutant, falcated duck, black-necked stork, cotton pygmy goose, ruddy crake, spot-billed duck, Baer's Pochard, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, greater painted snipe, Indian Courser, white-tailed eagle, imperial eagle, Yellow-wattled Lapwing, lesser kestrel, striated grassbird, bristlegrass bird, Sarus Crane, herons, egrets and ibis. 

Jungle Walk 

Enjoy the Jungle in Koshi Tappu (island) with a nature guide in the morning and evening. The riverine tropical jungle with grassland is interesting. Enjoy the wildlife, including deer, wild water buffalo, jackal, blue bull and wild boar. Here are the River lagoon and the view of Mt. Makalu (8463 m) on a clear day.
