Jomolhari Base Camp Trek

Jomolhari base camp trek is an adventure,12-day trip, which starts from Drukgyel Dzong (2580 m) the14 km north of Paro and ends at Dodena nearby the Thimpu. This is popular hiking with the two high passes including Nyilila Pass (4870 m) and Yelila Pass (4930 m) that offers superb views of the Mt Jomolhari, Drake, Tsherimgang, and Jiche above 7000 meters. 

Jomolhari base camp trek is moderate to the strenuous journey. Enjoy the camping trip that offers 6 to 8 hours walking. The view of Mt Jomolhari (7314 m) from the base camp is notable. We walk through Jigme Singye National Park. The best season is from October to November and March to June. Explore the yak pasture, flora and fauna such as rhododendron, wildflower, birch, maples, bamboo, conifer, apple, pear, blue sheep, monkey, and birds. The snow-capped mountain borders Tibet and Bhutan. The terraced fields and human settlements are in the lowland.

Day 01: Arrival in Bhutan airport (2225 m), check in hotel & sightseeing

Day 02: Paro (2225 m) to Sharna Zampa (2850 m) – 4/5 hours

Day 03: Sharna Zampa to Thangthangkha (3610 m) – 7/8 hours

Day 04: Thangthangkha to Jangothang (4080 m) – 5/6 hours

Day 05: Rest Day in Jangothang

Day 06: Jangothang to Lingshi (4010 m) – 6/7 hours

Day 07: Lingshi to Shodu (4080 m) – 7/8 hours

Day 08: Shodu to Barshong (3710 m) – 5/6 hours

Day 09: Barshong to Dolam Kencho (3320 m) – 5/6 hours

Day 10: Dolam Kencho to Dodena (2600 m) & Thimphu – 3/4 hours

Day 12: Thimphu to Paro

Day 01: Arrival in Bhutan airport (2225 m), check in hotel & sightseeing
When you arrive at Paro Airport, our guide welcomes you with a khada then transfer to hotel. Check in hotel, do sightseeing Paro city. Stay overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Paro (2225 m) to Sharna Zampa (2850 m) – 4/5 hours
Take the 14 kilometers drive to Drukgyel Dzong (2580 m) then, walk through a terraced field in the Paro Chhu Valley. Hike the 17 km trail to get the camp. Enjoy lunch on the way and check your trekking permit at the army camp in Gunitsawa Village. The walk continues to the campsite. Stay overnight at a camp.

Day 03: Sharna Zampa to Thangthangkha (3610 m) – 7/8 hours
Hike the 22 km trail with the several uphill and downhills. Take a lunch. Check the permit at the Jigme Dorji National Park. The walk continues following the river and the view of Mt Jomolhari. Stay overnight at a camp.

Day 04: Thangthangkha to Jangothang (4080 m) – 5/6 hours
Walk the 19 km trail with the view of Mt Jomolhari. Hike through a forest to the Paro Chu Valley. Pass an Army post and yak herd settlement. The walk continues to the camp. Stay overnight at a camp.

Day 05: Rest Day in Jangothang
Acclimatize the body with day hiking. Enjoy lakes, Himalaya views, including Jomolhari and Jichu Drake, and blue sheep. Return to the place, stay overnight at a camp.

Day 06: Jangothang to Lingshi (4010 m) – 6/7 hours
Hike the 18 km trail with the Nyilia Pass (4870 m). Enjoy the views of Himalaya, above the 7000 meters. Enjoy the blue sheep, yak herds. Climb downhill with the view of Tserimgang glacier on the way to Lingshi. Stay overnight at a camp.

Day 07: Lingshi to Shodu (4080 m) – 7/8 hours
Walk the 22 km trail with the Yelila Pass (4930 m). Enjoy the views of Jumolhari, Masanggang & Tserimgang. Climb downhill to Shodu. Stay overnight at a camp.

Day 08: Shodu to Barshong (3710 m) – 5/6 hours
Hike the 16 km trail through a dense forest in the Thimpu Chhu Valley. Enjoy the waterfall along the way and take gradually uphill to Barshong Dzong. Stay overnight at a camp.

Day 09: Barshong to Dolam Kencho (3320 m) – 5/6 hours
Walk the 15 km trail to the camp. Climb downhill to the Thimphu Chhu Valley through a forest and climb uphill to Dolam Kencho. Stay overnight at a camp.

Day 10: Dolam Kencho to Dodena (2600 m) & Thimphu – 3/4 hours
Walk the 8 km trail to Dodena. Climb uphill through a forest to a pass (3510 m). Climb downhill to the river valley to reach the Dodena with a cantilever bridge. Check out the permit at the Jigme Dorgi National Park. Ride a car to Thimphu in 30 minutes that is 15 km far. Stay overnight at a hotel in Thimphu.

Day 11: Do Sightseeing & shopping in Thimphu
Spend holidays in the capital city of Bhutan with sightseeing and shopping. Visit the Dzong, Monastery, Nunnery, Library, Mini Zoo, Museum, Paper Factory, Traditional Medicine Institute and the Royal Silver Smith. Stay overnight at hotel.

Day 12: Thimphu to Paro
Enjoy a hot breakfast and drive the 65 km in 2 hours to reach Paro Airport. Fly back to your destination.
